Colour is often the first thing we notice in an artwork, before we understand its subject, story, or form. It can attract us, disturb us, bring back a memory, or create a feeling that is difficult to put into words.

For Colour, we invited artists to explore colour not simply as a visual element, but as a language of its own. The resulting exhibition brings together a wide range of approaches, from works where colour is bold and dominant to those where it appears quietly through subtle shifts of tone, light, texture and atmosphere.

While reviewing the submissions, what stood out was how differently colour functions from one artist to another. For some, it carries emotion and personal memory; for others, it describes a place, a body, an imagined world, or an everyday moment. The same red can suggest intimacy, danger or celebration, while blue can feel peaceful in one work and melancholic in another. Meaning changes with context, culture and personal experience.

As a group exhibition, Colour becomes a conversation between these individual perspectives. Artists from different backgrounds, mediums and visual languages are brought together through one of the most immediate and universal elements of art.

At No. 35 Gallery, we are interested in creating spaces where different artistic voices can exist alongside one another. We invite viewers to move through these works and consider not only what they see, but how colour shapes what they feel.
