Mirjana Belegiški

In her artistic work, Mirjana Belegiški explores the emotional and psychological layers of the human experience, with a special focus on female identity, inner strength and vulnerability.
Her work is based on a realistic approach to portraiture, through which she strives to show what often remains unspoken - emotions, memories, personal struggles and the quiet strength of an individual. Gaze, facial expression and symbolic elements play a key role in her works, building a space for dialogue between the artwork and the viewer.
A special place in her work is occupied by the themes of female identity, motherhood and the daily challenges that women face. Through her works, she tries to show the strength, tenderness and perseverance of women, highlighting motherhood as one of the deepest and most transformative experiences.
She finds inspiration in everyday human stories, personal experiences and professional work with children, which developed her sensitivity for non-verbal communication and subtle emotional nuances. As a mother, herself devoted to her child, she brings to her creativity an authentic experience of love, care and unconditional support.
Using acrylic as a primary medium, Belegiški strives to encourage empathy, questioning and a deeper understanding of human nature through his works. For her, art represents a space of connection, honesty and the possibility to tell a universal story about strength, tenderness and belonging through visual language.

Artist Statement

In my artistic work I explore the emotional and psychological layers of the human experience, with a special focus on the strength of women, motherhood, identity and inner transformation.
Through a realistic approach to portraiture, I strive to portray emotions, personal struggles and the quiet strength that shapes a woman's everyday life. I find inspiration in the life stories of women, my own experience of motherhood and professional work with children.
As a mother and educator, I bring the authentic experience of love, care and unconditional support to my creativity. My works are a tribute to the strength, tenderness and perseverance of every woman.

Tell us about yourself and your artistic background.

I have been actively engaged in painting since 2024, and my artistic expression developed through many years of work with children, personal experiences and a deep interest in human emotions and interpersonal relationships.

How would you describe your artistic practice?

As part of my artistic practice, I participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Serbia and abroad, as well as in humanitarian exhibitions and projects. Through these activities, I try to bring art closer to a wider audience and connect it with social responsibility, solidarity and community support. I believe that art has the power to spark dialogue, foster empathy, and create deeper connections between people.

What themes or ideas are most important in your work?

In my work, I mostly deal with female identity, motherhood and the inner strength of a woman, as well as the emotional and psychological depth of the human experience through portraiture.

What inspires your creative process?

My greatest source of inspiration is women—their strength, emotions, resilience, and the beauty hidden within everyday life experiences. I also find inspiration in my work with children, as well as in my son, who reminds me every day of the importance of honesty, love, and inner strength. Through my artwork, I strive to express emotions and stories that often remain unspoken but can still be deeply felt.

Can you tell us about a recent artwork or project?

One of my recent projects was the exhibition “We Who See Differently”, dedicated to women and their uniqueness. Through portraiture, I explored themes of strength, identity, vulnerability, and authenticity. This project was especially meaningful to me because it brought together different women, each with her own story, showing that our differences are what enrich the human experience. In addition, I regularly participate in charitable exhibitions both in Serbia and abroad, believing that art has the power to connect people and inspire positive change.

What challenges have influenced your development as an artist?

I find inspiration in my son and in the strength of women that continuously inspires and drives my creative work.

What role does art play in your life today?

Today, art plays a key role in my life as a space for personal expression, emotion, and inner development through which I better understand myself and the world around me and continuously develop my artistic practice.

What are you currently working on?

On a portrait of a women and a man.

What are your future goals as an artist?

My future plans are focused on further developing my artistic expression, participating in exhibitions in my country and abroad, deepening my exploration of themes of female identity and emotions through portraiture, as well as connecting with and meeting other artists.
