Artist Statement
My practice explores atmosphere, memory, transformation, and the emotional spaces that exist beneath the visible surface. Working primarily with acrylic, wax and mixed media, I build paintings through layers of colour, texture and light, allowing each work to develop intuitively rather than following a fixed image.
Water appears repeatedly in my work, not only as a physical element but as a metaphor for memory, movement and the subconscious. My years living in Bali also shaped my sensitivity to landscape, light and the changing relationship between the inner and outer world.
I am interested in creating works that remain open rather than fully explained — spaces in which the viewer can recognise something familiar while forming their own emotional connection.
Exhibition Statement
Beneath the Surface brings together a selection of atmospheric works exploring what exists beyond the immediately visible. Through shifting layers of colour, texture and light, the paintings move between landscape and abstraction, presence and memory.
Water, changing skies and undefined horizons appear throughout the exhibition as emotional rather than literal spaces. Forms emerge, disappear and transform, reflecting the way memories and inner states are constantly reshaped.
Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the exhibition invites the viewer into moments of suspension — places where the familiar becomes uncertain and where something quieter can be sensed beneath the surface.
