Artist Statement
My work initiates a longer inquiry in to moments where human identity destabilises in the presence of non human intelligence .My visual emphasis is on the absolving bounds of formal and conceptual paradigms. The visuality of the semiotics becomes an exchange of dialogue between me, the space, the method and the encounters that eventuate. As the monopolised agency of the artist disperses, I wish to peel away, painstakingly, the layers of persona that refurbishes our collective unconscious, to unveil the shared instinctual patterns.The self is not a container, but a passage into the metaphysical. Entities (trees, ruins, fungi, architectures,
presences) are no longer symbols but intelligences in integrated relations. They are not metaphors but interlocutors. These realisations lose their authenticity
when over articulated. Once translated too cleanly into language, they collapse
into aesthetics. So in these visuals, the formal attributes revitalise and the process animates itself. It extends beyond the making, shaping and conceptualising. The life of the forms in the visuals, encounter a state of sustained metamorphosis through its viewership. I am drawn to that threshold where decay and renewal blur, where silence takes on volume. The image, instead of describing the world, begins to dream it back into being. In the act of spectation, the layers of paints, strokes and marks that weave dimension through translucency are the formal facets spirited in conveying this conception.
Exhibition Statement
As Ego structures collapse, deeper layers grow through
the cracks, external order dissolves and the internal
wilderness begins its work.
My work emerges through a process of layering, burial,
interruption and gradual transformation. Surfaces are
repeatedly built and worn away until stable form begins to
loosen. I am interested in forms of symbiosis where
psychological states, material surfaces, memory and
organic, vegetal growth begin to feed into each other,
shapeshift into one another. Emotions accumulate like
sediments, concealed structures begin to surface and
erosion becomes inseparable from growth.
The recurring presence of trees and organic forms
functions less as symbols and more as witnesses, existing
outside systems of performance and cultural conditioning.
They interrupt imposed order and reveal slower rhythms
operating beneath ordinary perception.
These creations remain within states of transition where
material process, psychological transformation and
vegetal presence dissolves on to one another
