Artist Statement
Nina Albrecht is a visual artist and painter based in Helsinki. She works mainly with oil and acrylic, with nature as a recurring starting point. Flowers, birds, landscapes and places she has visited often find their way into her paintings.
Color plays an important role in her work. She is drawn to strong contrasts, unexpected combinations and the way light can completely change a landscape or a familiar subject. Her paintings often begin with something she has seen or experienced, but develop freely through the painting process.
Her work moves between figurative and more expressive painting, with an emphasis on color, atmosphere and the physical act of painting.
Exhibition Statement
Nature is a constant presence in my work, but I rarely paint it exactly as I find it. I am drawn to moments when something ordinary suddenly becomes visually striking – an unexpected colour, a particular light, flowers against snow, reflections on water or a landscape that looks almost unreal.
The paintings in this exhibition come from different places and encounters: Nordic landscapes, botanical gardens, travels and observations from everyday life. Some begin with a specific place or moment, while others develop from several impressions over time.
Painting allows me to take these observations somewhere else. Colors become stronger, forms shift and the original subject gradually gives way to the painting itself. What connects the works is not a single place or motif, but my way of looking at the natural world and translating it through color and paint.
